A few years ago, WhatsApp mentioned a new feature in development whereby you can search for chats by date. Sadly, the company decided to ditch the project, leaving us to scroll through long messages. Fortunately, it looks like this development is back on the cards.

WABetaInfo reported the feature is back in development after spotting the changes in the TestFlight Beta Program. While there’s not too much information available, you can see from the screenshots how it works. When you click on the small calendar icon on the keyboard, you can go back to a previous date.

All your messages in that chat from that date will appear on your screen. It’s helpful if you remember when you had the conversation. Also, it will save you time having to scroll all the way back. If you’re managing a business on WhatsApp, the feature will also make you more productive by not wasting your time.

Personally, I’m not so sure the WhatsApp feature will be helpful to me. I become annoyed having too many chats open with messages. I tend to regularly clear them, so searching for discussions by date isn’t an option for me. If there’s any message I need to keep, I prefer just downloading it or emailing it to myself.

At least we’ve seen some leaks of community and camera features coming to WhatsApp, which are more exciting than searching for messages. If you were disappointed that the company stopped working on it, you can now rejoice.
