WhatsApp for Windows Phone 8 and 7.5 has been updated to version 2.10.491. This solves a number of problems with the app, and introduces features previously only available on the iOS and Android versions.
One big improvement is that notifications have been sped up. Windows Phone users often waited too long to get notifications of new messages. Also added is a button that allows you to call contacts directly from conversations, and the display of images and emoticons should now look better.
You can now choose to back up your chat history, and the background API allows you to play music. You’ll have to wait for video sharing though, while it’s available on other platforms, it still hasn’t been added to the Windows Phone app.
Users are reporting that this updated WhatsApp is resource hungry and eats at battery life. If this is true, we can expect another update to WhatsApp for Windows Phone very soon.
